Coaching

As a career coach, I focus on teaching people who don't consider themselves to be "business people" how to be effective managers or leaders in the business world, while still staying true to themselves. A lot of people think that you have to be an aggressive extrovert to be successful in leadership positions, but I take a different approach. It is entirely possible to run a business purely based on authentic connections and gentle sales tactics - and I’d love to show you how.

Networking for Introverts

Being a hermit is really great for perfecting one’s craft, but absolutely dreadful for finding work as an artist. We have to do more than hide away in our studio practicing our creative activities - we have to get out into our community, and meet people to find work. If no one knows you exist, no one can hire you. As featured on Episode 142 of nationally-acclaimed podcast “The Portfolio Composer,” I’ll explain strategies for how to build business and artistic connections to generate more work, with increased comfort and confidence.

so you’re the captain… now whaT?

It’s fun to be the captain of the ship. That is, unless the ship’s in a crisis or crew members aren’t getting along. Let’s face it, at some point in their career, everyone ends up in a leadership position. Whether it’s managing deadlines for a small team’s data entry project or conducting the largest orchestra you’ve led, there will inevitably be challenges that are the leader’s responsibility to navigate. In this workshop I focus on building communication skills by embracing conflict with a growth mindset. We’ll cover how to have difficult conversations when people aren’t meeting expectations, how to enforce boundaries, and the psychology behind discipline.

Portfolio Career Planning

Some call it freelancing, others call it entrepreneurship. In the 21st Century, musicians are finding themselves engaging in what are called Portfolio Careers. A Portfolio Career, simply put, is a career where multiple types of work are executed simultaneously to create multiple streams of revenue that allows a more broadly creative career and a sustainable life style. In this workshop, I’ll share universal truths about having a Portfolio Career, as well as guide participants through a hands-on activity to plan for their own future.

In the above video, I was a panelist for a workshop on Networking & Marketing for Artists with the Fishers Arts Council

Marketing locally: generating more work in your community

I'm not a BRAND, I'm an ARTIST! Have you ever thought that before? Despite how yucky business language tends to feel to artists, we have to accept certain truths. One of these is that marketing while keeping your creative side in the driver's seat can be one of the most powerful approaches to generating more work for yourself. In this action-oriented workshop, I guide participants through the process of identifying their artist-driven brand, share a step-by-step approach to creating financial opportunities, and provide free templates to help plan the next steps of your business. Seriously, the handout had seven templates you can use to advance your career, either creatively or businessly.
